About The Film
A universal story...
There’s a depth about “Masterpiece” that’s almost impossible to articulate. By design, the interpretation of “Masterpiece” is subjective to your context or point of view. It can mean one thing, or the totality of something else. But in a word, “Masterpiece” is about brokeness. A broken mind, a broken heart, a broken body, a broken spirit, a broken dream… anyone can relate to “brokeness.”
Nobody’s perfect. We all make mistakes and crack under the pressures of life. And no matter how hard we try to conceal or ignore our flaws, they’re still there.
But “Masterpiece” is also a story about redemption! And how, in the right hands, our shattered pieces can become something beautiful.
The Production
An ambitious first film for SkyGate...
“Masterpiece” was the innagural proejct for SkyGate Studios. Filmed in 2007, it grew SkyGate in every way; from story to execution, pushing every capacity to the limit: a fantasy-epic period piece, unique production coordination challenges, unique continuity challenges, two multifunctional set designs, two massive set builds, two locations, nine custom costumes, special effects, visual effects, original score, sound design…

Set Builds
To depict the old-world era, “Masterpiece” required one remote location and two massive set builds. Each set was built with enginuity to maximize the space.

Props & Costumes
The costumes custom made and were inspired by the biblical era but given an artisan flare. Equal research went into the set pieces and props.

Ancient Techniques
Tremendous research went into understanding ancient pottery techniques. From storing clay in burlap to cutting it with wire; from firing the kiln to the pedal wheel… it was all authenitc.
